Patios and drainage, Northfield

Sunken patio fixed with new drainage in Northfield

The patio at this Northfield home had sunk, so rainwater sat on it and flooded the garden. We lifted it, put in proper channel drainage and relaid it level.

The problem

Over time the slabs had sunk, so water had nowhere to go. Every time it rained the patio flooded, leaving standing water and mud across the garden.

What we did

  • Lifted the existing slabs and stacked them to reuse
  • Dug a trench across the patio for new ACO channel drainage
  • Laid and compacted a fresh, level bed
  • Relaid the slabs to the right falls, checking the levels as we went
  • Tested the drainage with water to make sure it runs away properly

The result

A level patio with two channel drains that carry rainwater away, so the garden no longer floods. The original slabs were cleaned off and reused.
